The Journal of Asian American Studies, commonly referred to as JAAS, is dedicated to providing an outlet for a multitude of Asian American experiences as well as the study of those experiences. First published in 1998, it provides scholarly works invoking research findings, methods of studying and teaching, histories of Asian Americans, reviews of media, and criticism of the social conditions of Asian Americans. JAAS "seeks to define Asian American studies as a distinct, interdisciplinary scholarly pursuit and to integrate Asian American perspectives into the various disciplines that contribute to the development of the field." (Liu, 1998) The focus of the journal is to amalgamate Asian American attitudes into different fields of learning, as well as society in general, by use of strict academic tone in the majority of the articles. Some articles in this journal tackle the issue of racial identity, while others focus on aspects of the life of an Asian American professional.
