
Q: What is Sigma Tau Delta?
A: “Sigma Tau Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction upon students
of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and
professional studies. Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments
of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language
and literature.
One of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies [link to http://www.achsnatl.org], Sigma Tau Delta has over 600 active chapters, more than 900 faculty sponsors, and inducts approximately 7,000 members annually. Our members have the opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding achievements, enrich their education, help them make career choices, and advance their careers” (Sigma Tau Delta Website).
Q: Why should I join?
A: You will receive copies of the honors society publications, have opportunities
to attend the annual national convention, be able to apply for awards and
scholarships, and become involved in service opportunities in your community.
Additionally, you will be able to list your membership on your resume among
your accomplishments.
Q: What are the qualifications to apply as a member?
A: “Active membership is available, in general, to students with a minimum
of a B or equivalent average in English, who rank at least in the highest
thirty-five percent of their class in general scholarship, and who have
completed at least three semesters or five quarters of college work” (Sigma
Tau Delta Website).
Q: How can I join at CSUCI?
A: The current CSUCI chapter of Sigma Tau Delta is Alpha Nu Eta. Interested students should contact Dr. Brad Monsma, Interim Chair of the English Program, Professor of English, or the following board member:
