Lucas Sydalske (Spring, 2004) and Sienna Skupien (Spring, 2005)
[Note: Lucas and Sienna met in an English class, married when they graduated, and had their first child, Ruby, in 2007. They moved to San Francisco where Lucas began the MFA program in Creative Writing at San Francisco State, and Sienna got a job as a librarian.]
Sienna is on maternity leave right now from her job as a Librarian at an elementary school. I myself just started teaching high school this year. I teach English to Freshman, Seniors. It's an urban school in Pittsburg California, and it's the most challenging thing I have ever attempted. We have already had two guns on campus (thankfully without incident) numerous fights, and dealing with gang activity and gang recruitment on campus has been a real struggle. I finished my graduate coursework in San Francisco in the Spring, but I am still working on my novel for the Thesis. It's a little slow going with the new job, but once I get into my rhythm it should get rolling once again. Sienna is happy to be with the baby, but she loved her work very much (luckily they have agreed to hold her job for her until she's ready to return-they like her very much there).
